a play by Polly Teale about the Brontë family 10.02.15 - 14.02.15
Brontë is a play by British playwright Polly Teale about the lives of the Brontë sisters, their brother Branwell and their father Patrick. It also features characters from the sisters' novels such as Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights.
The play begins as three women in a rehearsal room are studying the Bronte family. We are then taken back in time as they take on the characters of the three sisters. We watch as their story unfolds and characters from their most famous books come to life. In 1845 Branwell Bronte returns home in disgrace, plagued by his addictions. As he descends into alcoholism and insanity, bringing chaos to the household, his sisters write.
