The story of Decius Heiss, a widower, and to all intents a respectable gentleman. His purpose in life is to provide his musically gifted daughter Margaret, the only person he really cares about, with a secure and happy life.
All the time he is trying to ensure she does not find out about his criminal past. Unfortunately, someone else does discover his secret.
